Practice Nurses

Our two Nursing Sisters, Mrs Anne Hughes and Mrs Helen Purnell (in training), work in the practice and offer appointments in the morning and afternoon for a wide range of problems including:
- Chronic Disease Management (e.g. Asthma, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease)
- Health Promotion including Smoking Cessation Advice
- Travel Advice & Immunisation
- Ear Syringing
- Dressings & Removal of Sutures
- Cervical Smears
The nurses can be contacted at the surgery for appointments and advice. When booking an appointment with the Practice Nurse please advise the Receptionist of the reason for the appointment, she can then book an appointment of a suitable duration.
Practice Healthcare Team
In addition to the Doctors and Practice Nurses, the following staff members make up the Practice Healthcare Team.
Office Manager
Mrs Karen Whant is responsible for Human Resources and the day to day running of the Surgery.
Data Manager
Miss Michele Richards is responsible for the development of computer systems and maintenance of accurate data records, also Practice Finance, Quality and Outcomes Framework and Enhanced Services.
Medical Secretaries
Mrs Claire Morgan will deal with your letters, referrals to hospital, and the day to day secretarial work of the practice.
Healthcare Assistants
Miss Rachel Garland and Miss Leanne Clarke are phlebotomy trained and are responsible for taking blood samples and investigations. Thier duties also include:

- New Patient Health Checks
- Lifestyle Advice
- Flu Vaccines
Prescription Clerk
Mrs Claire Bonnici will deal with all your prescription requests and any queries you may have.

Will make appointments for patients to see the Doctors, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants and will take messages for Health Visitors and District Nurses. The Receptionists have a difficult job to do and are here to help you. Please remember that if you are kept waiting or are asked some apparently irritating questions it is because of our policy aimed at the smooth and safe running of the Practice. We do need to ascertain the urgency of particular requests and sometimes spend longer with patients than we have allowed.

Attached Staff
Health Visitors
The health development of children forms a major part of the work of the Health Visitors. You can contact the Health Visitors on a Tuesday afternoon at the Practice or contact Reception who will give you a contact number, or leave a message. They will be happy to advise you about the health and welfare of babies and young children. They run a Well Baby Clinic on a Tuesday and do regular developmental testing.
District Nurses
Are available to visit you at home to help with the following:
- Dressings, Removal of Sutures & Injections
- Advice & Care for the Acutely or Chronically Sick, and the Terminally Ill
- Advice on Incontinence & Supplying Pads or Other Aids
They can be contacted through the surgery, but please try to leave any message before 10:30am.
Community Midwives
Work with the Doctors to provide care for mothers before and after delivery and care for the baby for the first 28 days of life. Antenatal clinic is now run on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
